In November 2022, with the election of the 37th government of Israel, a coalition government led by Benjamin Netanyahu and notable for its inclusion of far-right politicians, violence in the conflict increased, with events such as the January 2023 Jenin incursion, the June 2023 Jenin incursion, the July 2023 Jenin incursion, the 2023 Neve Yaakov shooting, the 2023 Al-Aqsa clashes, and the May 2023 Gaza–Israel clashes, alongside Palestinian political violence has produced a death toll in 2023 that is the highest in the conflict since 2005.This culminated in the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, when Hamas-led militant groups launched a surprise attack on southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of Israeli civilians and taking hostages.The Israeli military retaliated by conducting an extensive aerial bombardment campaign on Gaza, followed by an large-scale ground invasion with the stated goal of destroying Hamas and controlling Gaza afterwards. Israel has also launched incursions in the West Bank and engaged with Hezbollah and Iranian proxy forces in Lebanon, Syria, and northern Israel.
Nearly 100 days into the ongoing Palestine-Israel conflict, Israel's bombardment of Gaza has killed at least 23,708 people, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health.
The Gaza Strip population has lost at least 1 percent of its 2.3 million residents and more than 10,000 of those killed were children, said the ministry, adding that nearly 7,000 are reported to be still under the rubble.

Israel continued pounding Gaza on Saturday as the Palestinian territory suffered under a dire humanitarian situation and grappled with a telecommunications blackout on the 99th day of the conflict, which began on October 7.
In central Gaza, a lack of fuel forced the shutdown of the main generator of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, the Gaza Health Ministry said.

Andrea De Domenico, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories, said on Friday that Israel was constantly blocking humanitarian aid convoys into northern Gaza.
"They have been very systematic in not allowing us to support hospitals, which is something that is reaching a point of a level of inhumanity that for me is beyond comprehension," De Domenico said.

The International Court of Justice on Thursday began the public hearings on the request for the indication of provisional measures submitted by South Africa in the case accusing Israel of genocide.
Ronald Lamola, South Africa's justice minister, said: "No armed attack on a state territory, no matter how serious, can provide justification for or defend breaches of the convention (the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide)." "Israel's response to the October 7 attack has crossed this line and given rise to the breaches of the convention."

Israel has rejected the accusations of genocide as baseless and accused South Africa of playing "advocate of the devil" for Hamas, the Palestinian armed group Israel is fighting against in Gaza.
It is expected to rule on possible emergency measures later this month. The court will not rule at that time on the genocide allegations – those proceedings could take years.

Fears of the latest Palestine-Israel conflict widening have grown after U.S. and British forces struck pro-Hamas Houthis in Yemen following attacks on Red Sea shipping, with a fresh U.S. air strike confirmed Saturday.
The fresh air raids came in less than 24 hours of similar massive air strikes on Friday, which caused a surge of oil prices and prompted a UN Security Council meeting due to the worries of regional tensions escalating.
The Houthis have escalated their attacks in the Red Sea, demanding an end to Israeli attacks and the siege against the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip.

Earlier this week, Israel killed a top Hezbollah commander in a strike in south Lebanon, inflicting a heavy blow after three months of hostilities at the Lebanese-Israeli frontier.
More than 130 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in hostilities since October 7, igniting a conflict that has rippled around the region. It has marked the deadliest confrontation between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah since they went to war in 2006, with Hezbollah firing guided rockets and other weapons at Israeli positions and Israel launching air and artillery strikes.
